Research a Veteran

Exploring the Basics of Military Research
9:00 a.m.

All the records DID NOT burn. Answers can be found and stories written no matter what anyone tells you.

There is a strategy to correctly research 20th century military service, regardless of branch. In this session you will learn where to begin your research at home, what questions to ask, what records you need to establish the foundation, where to obtain records, and how to begin writing the story.

I use storytelling along with the records to help you understand the deeper impacts of service. You might want a tissue for the story at the end of this session.

World War II Sacrifice

Records & Resources for the Prisoners, Missing, & Dead
10:30 a.m.

Discover the history of the American Graves Registration Service and the records they created for our honored war dead. We will then explore POW records before taking a journey to Europe with James Privoznik, who was Killed In Action 11 January 1945. Through our research, writing, and travel journey, I'll tell you his story and how I found information when most would say it is impossible.

Did you lose someone in World War I, World War II, Korea or Vietnam? Please let Jennifer know when you register (there is a space for this) or email me at [email protected]

Exploring the Greatest Generation

Adding Context to the Veteran's Story
1:00 p.m.

Contextual records are everywhere, not just the National Archives!

Once you have established what units your service member was in and where they served, it is time to explore unit-level records.

We will explore various histories, journals, photos, and maps for all the military branches. You will learn about the most valuable foundational records to put your service member into context and write a richer story everyone will want to read.

These records help you write the narrative to your stories. They will also help you understand why your veteran was who they were after service, and probably bring up more questions for you to consider.

Exploring the Online Battlefield

Resources & Strategies for Online Military Research.
2:30 p.m.

Many of the records you need, especially at an individual level, are not online. However, all is not lost! There are rich records and databases available to help put puzzle pieces together. In some cases, you might even hit the jackpot on digitized records to help tell your service member's story.

After we explore some online sources you may not have considered, to demonstrate the vastness of online military records, we will take a live walk-through of Fold3. Using Case Studies I will show you were to find the gold and what to be aware of as you search. All tips provided apply to any database you search online.

BONUS Q&A Session

Join us for a bonus Q&A session. This will run 30-45 minutes.
4:00 p.m.

As we end our day you might be on information overload, but are invited to stay for the Bonus Q&A session. This portion of the day will be run by Zoom Meeting to be more interactive.

Did you have a question that was not addressed during a session or the Q&A for that session? Or perhaps the question is a little beyond what we covered?

BONUS! Questions I could not get to during the bonus Q&A will be reviewed. Questions & Answers will be emailed to all attendees a few days after the seminar.

I'M JENNIFER.

I’m a spiritual coach and an Intuitive healer specializing in inherited & war trauma, and personal & ancestral healing. I’ve been on a conscious personal healing journey for a more than a decade. My journey began over 25 years ago while researching & writing about my family & military history. My military ancestors helped me dive deeper into my personal & ancestral trauma to heal.

Discovering the history of our families allows for family patterns, inherited trauma, & secrets to rise. This provides an opportunity to take a deeper look at our research to allow for healing & closure.

By 2015 my healing journey & military work allowed me to travel in Europe & create a life both there & in Chicago. I became embedded in Dutch society, life, relationships, healthcare, politics, culture, got a deep dive into grief when I became a caregiver to someone I was married to in the Netherlands.  All of that gave me a unique perspective on our world & the layers of trauma we each carry, no matter where we live.

I visited battlefields & burial sites, religious & cultural sites, heard family & war stories, some of which brought me to my knees in grief as I channeled the people telling the stories. I understand context that many people do not. This makes me unique in the way I can help clients heal on both sides of the ocean to explore their personal & ancestral family patterns & war trauma. I have studied & understand genealogy & military records, & what information, secrets, patterns, inherited trauma, feelings, & emotions they may share.

Each experience I had in Europe gave me awareness & puzzle pieces for my healing & the healing of our ancestors & the collective. Puzzle pieces & awareness I can now share with you.

For more than a decade I have studied ancestral lineage healing, energy healing modalities, inherited trauma, PTSD, grief & loss, caregiving, & spiritual modalities. I have also taken a deep dive into my personal and ancestral healing.

I look forward to working with you to heal yourself and your ancestors. We are all connected no matter where we live, what our culture is, what our trauma has been….when one heals, we all heal.
